Seems like a blurry mess until you find the right distance then it all comes into focus.
Using photo shop to convert the image to black and white.
then by playing with line weight/thickness contrast and saturation to heavily exaggerate the lights and shadows to create these bold lines.
Afterwards I use a simple grid method to plot and draw by hand.
